“System change, not climate change”, is a slogan commonly used by the global climate justice movement which originated from the Austrian Climate Justice Movement. Our ongoing increasing development proved as basic and the most important reason behind the rise of this slogan.
Years ago humans were living in a quite green and pure environment. At the start of 1980, our planet started facing a huge global climate on an unprecedented scale. Trees became rare and the wind impure. People living in those eras stated that it was almost impossible to change the climate of a region without being moved in the course of centuries. The development and the growing progress of our industries make it possible, but today we are facing the most rapid climate changes. According to research, the industrial growth had occurred during 1820 to 1840 but the rapid changes in climate with the modern machinery and the electrical devices were recorded after 1980s. It shows that the most basic reason of climate change laid behind the recent human progress in their industrial field.
Humans are a social animal who can do anything to meet their social needs. They are moving rapidly towards the overpowering of the whole world. In this journey, they are using his wisdom and keeps on inventing more advanced and the most technical instruments. These nonliving instruments and machinery making human life more and more fascinating and luxurious and most importantly, it is providing the most comfortable and magnificent ways of making money without any hard work. This excessive greed for is impacting environment in ways we can’t even imagine.
We are making this world the most dangerous and improper place for living. If humans can make these modern and technical instruments with their intelligence, then, they can surely come up with ways to make this world a better place for their survival. The fact is we are only going for our progress and money and ignoring the conditions of our environment and climate which is becoming worse day by day. We are working for the change of the climate but not the change of the system.
Glaciers play an important role in maintaining the climate but this increasing climate change is contributing to their rapid melting. Melting of Himalayas is threatening all the rivers of Pakistan. In recent years, Pakistan is declared as one of the most affected country by climate changes.
All the above discussion is useless until we understand and take steps for betterment. We can make this world better only by our care. When we use modern machinery, we should manage fuels underground. We should use sustainable transport. We should enhance greenery and protect our forests and support the movements like “green Pakistan” and initiate more such movements. These are the steps which cannot only taken by the government but also the individuals. We should play our role genuinely of being citizen of this state and a member of this world.
