On this day in 1952, the East Pakistan Students’ Union was formed. Founded as the East Pakistan Students’ Union, the organization was formed from the embers of the Language Movement and served as the progressive vanguard of the student movement.It is one of the leading student organizations in Bangladesh. It is working for students and youth right as a secular and progressive students’ organization in Bangladesh as well as all over the world as the member of several international students’ and youth organizations. Bangladesh Students’ Union (BSU) is working as the most conscious, advanced and struggling progressive representative of the students of Bangladesh, independent, democratic, pluralistic and non-partisan student organization which would embrace, represent and defend the interests of students and their rights.
From the Education Movement of 1962 to the Mass Uprising of 1969, East Pakistan Students Union played a vital role. After Independence Bangladesh, The BSU fought against decades of autocracy. In recent decades, BSU has been at the forefront of fighting against privatization, and for a public and universal education system for all. It played a vital role in Shahbag Movement, the No Vat Movement, the movement for the restoration of student union elections and more. Even today, the Bangladesh Students Union lives up to its glorious past and serves as a symbol of progressive students across Bangladesh and their efforts to fight for a more equal and just society for all.
In Bangladesh students organizations are directly involved with political parties except for Bangladesh Students Union (BSU). Where others organisations is the part and parcels various way of political parties in Bangladesh. The political parties use students as an instrument. Bangladesh Students Union is different from any other students’ organizations in Bangladesh. Mainly BSU is working with student related issues.
