Students in Lahore, under the banner of Progressive Students Collective, have announced a protest in front of the Lahore Press Club tomorrow (Thursday, June 25) to demand the release of 70 activists who were arrested in Quetta earlier today.
As many as 70 students from various fields were baton charged and arrested by Quetta police for violating Section 144. These students had gathered for a demonstration demanding access to quality internet in Balochistan to enable access to their online classes. These students were also protesting fee hikes imposed by various university administrations.
News of the crackdown attracted widespread condemnation on social media. Among the arrested protestors is Muzammail Khan, convener of Student Action Committee which organized the Students Solidarity March, and Mahrang Baloch who has also been very vocal about student issues in Balochistan.
Progressive Students Collective also condemned these arrests in a statement and announced a protest in Lahore demanding the release of arrested activists in Quetta.
